ABOUT ME
Welcome to my artistic realm. I’m Jordy Zacharia Buckles, a contemporary sculptor born in Edmonton in 1979, now creating in Vancouver, British Columbia. My passion lies in the world of studio-built sculpture, where I blend traditional techniques with innovative design to craft abstract masterpieces that captivate and inspire.
Since establishing my studio in 2008, I’ve dedicated myself to the art of forging and fabricating sculptures in steel, stainless steel, and bronze. My works are celebrated for their accuracy in curvilinear design, volumetric form, and intricate technical details. Each piece I create is a testament to my meticulous craftsmanship and creative vision, transforming raw materials into dynamic and thought-provoking sculptures.
My expertise extends beyond the boundaries of Canada. I’ve had the honor of being commissioned to create artworks for prestigious locations in Hong Kong, London, Nevada, and various cities across Canada. Notable career highlights include a sculpture commission for the Air Canada Lounge at Vancouver International Airport in 2020 and a sculpture installation at Buffalo Creek Art Centre in Nevada in 2019.
Educationally, I hold a Trade Qualification (TQ) in sheet metal fabrication from the British Columbia Institute of Technology, which I received in 2008. I also studied liberal arts at Vancouver Island University, enriching my artistic perspective and grounding my creative endeavors in a broad intellectual context.
My sculptures have been showcased in numerous gallery exhibitions, marking milestones in my evolving artistic journey. Some of my selected exhibitions include “Neoteric” at the Jennifer Kostuik Gallery in 2018, collaborative exhibitions at Sopa Fine Arts, and multiple installations at Polychrome Fine Arts in Victoria. Each exhibition serves as a chapter in my ongoing exploration of form, space, and the intricate patterns of life.
At the heart of my work is a relentless pursuit of excellence and innovation in studio-built sculpture. My creations are not just art; they are reflections of life’s layered complexity, crafted with a unique blend of technical precision and creative flair. Join me in celebrating the transformative power of contemporary art through my visionary works.
